Position Title: Property Survey Crew Chief

Reports To: Survey Manager/Project Manager
Job Summary: The Property Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading a team of survey crew members in conducting property surveys for various types of projects, including residential, commercial, and public works. At the Bemidji location the Crew Chief may be responsible for leading crews in 4-way sweeps. This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing field surveying activities to ensure accurate and timely data collection. The Crew Chief will also be responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and providing technical guidance to crew members.

The Crew Chief will also be responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and providing technical guidance to crew members.
Requirements for Employment
- Drug Test: Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening test as a condition of employment. The drug/alcohol test is through Pipeline Testing Consortium, Inc.
- Ongoing Monitoring: Employees will be subject to random drug testing throughout their employment. This is to ensure a safe and productive work environment and comply with company policies.
- Compliance: Employees must comply with all company policies related to drug and alcohol use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Survey Planning and Execution:
- Plan and conduct property surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction layout surveys and conduct 4-way sweeps (if in Bemidji location).
- Utilize survey equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors to gather accurate field data.
- Interpret and analyze field data to prepare survey notes, maps, and other documentation.
- Upload daily data to company server in project folder.
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and supervise a team of survey crew members.
- Assign tasks, provide training, and ensure that crew members adhere to established procedures workmanship and safety standards.
- Review and verify the accuracy and completeness of survey data collected by the team.
- Equipment Maintenance and Management:
- Ensure that all survey equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition. Report to project manager any needs.
- Maintain an inventory of survey equipment and supplies (in office), and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed with project manager.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other project associates to understand project requirements and provide updates on survey progress.
- Address any issues or concerns that arise during the survey process in a timely and professional manner with appropriate personal also note in field notes all communications.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed survey reports, field notes, sketches, and other documentation including LEMs and photos and submit on time.
- Create clear notes with data noted.
- Ensure that all survey data and documentation are organized and stored according to company standards and project requirements.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to surveying and land use.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure the well-being of the survey team and the public.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Civil Engineering, Land Surveying experience in a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in land surveying, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or crew chief role.
- Licenses/Certifications: A valid driver’s license is required, Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is highly desirable; certification as a Survey Technician (CST) is a plus.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in using survey equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Strong understanding of survey principles, methods, and techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, maps, and legal descriptions.
- Proficient in survey software and computer applications, including AutoCAD and GIS.
Working Conditions:
- The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- May require lifting and carrying heavy equipment.
- Travel to different job sites is required, including possible out of state work 1 – 2 weeks at a time.
