Job Title: AutoCAD Draftsman
Position Title: AutoCAD Draftsman
Department: Surveying
Reports to: Project Managers
Job Summary: An AutoCAD Draftsman is responsible for creating technical drawings, plans, and designs using AutoCAD software. The draftsman works closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to convert ideas, sketches, and specifications into detailed technical drawings that are essential for the construction, manufacturing, or production process.

Requirements for Employment

  • Drug Test: Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening test as a condition of employment. The drug/alcohol test is through Pipeline Testing Consortium, Inc.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Employees will be subject to random drug testing throughout their employment. This is to ensure a safe and productive work environment and comply with company policies.
  • Compliance: Employees must comply with all company policies related to drug and alcohol use.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Drawing Creation:
    • Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings and blueprints based on specifications provided by engineers or architects.
    • Create plans, layouts, sections, elevations, and detailed views.
    • Ensure drawings adhere to industry and company standards.
  2. Collaboration:
    • Work with engineers, architects, and other professionals to gather and interpret design requirements and specifications.
    • Communicate effectively to clarify any ambiguities in the design.
  3. Project Coordination:
    • Assist in the coordination of various phases of a project, from the initial design through to final execution.
    • Update drawings as necessary to reflect changes during the project lifecycle.
  4. Quality Control:
    • Review completed drawings for accuracy and ensure all required specifications are included.
    • Perform quality checks on drawings to identify and rectify any errors or inconsistencies.
  5. Documentation:
    • Maintain an organized archive of drawings, ensuring that all versions are appropriately documented.
    • Prepare and submit documentation for project approvals, permits, and construction.
  6. Software Proficiency:
    • Utilize AutoCAD and other relevant software to produce high-quality designs.
    • Stay updated with the latest software versions and enhancements.
  7. Standards Compliance:
    • Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, local codes, and company policies.
    • Keep up to date with changes in drafting standards and technology.
  8. Client Interaction:
    • Occasionally interact with clients to understand their requirements and incorporate feedback into the design process.
    • Present designs and explain details when necessary.
  9. Continual Learning:
    • Engage in professional development to stay current with new drafting technologies and industry best practices.
    • Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars related to AutoCAD and drafting.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience as an AutoCAD Draftsman or in a similar role.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other CAD software (e.g., Revit, SketchUp).
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Good understanding of engineering and architectural principles.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.

Work Environment:

  • Typically office-based, but may require site visits to gather information or verify designs.
  • May work in industries such as construction, architecture, manufacturing, or engineering.
